Contemporary Design - Badikhel, Lalitpur

  • The contemporary design house being constructed in Badikhel, Lalitpur, Nepal. Here’s a detailed description

    Structural Features
    • Foundation and Frame: The house is engineered with a robust RCC column-beam frame structure. This configuration provides maximum structural integrity and high seismic resilience, which is essential for the geography of the Kavre region.
    • Materials: The exterior utilizes high-quality Chinese fair-faced bricks, premium exterior stone cladding accents, and a distinctive textured dark grey finish. These materials create a low-maintenance facade that withstands heavy monsoon weather without requiring frequent repainting.
    Exterior Design
    • Facade: The building showcases a striking, ultra-modern elevation. It features a bold white cantilevered structural frame with vertical laser-cut screen detailing, a warm timber-textured vertical accent wall, and natural stone pillars.
    • Windows & Balconies: Double-height glazing panels maximize natural light intake, paired with sleek glass-and-metal safety railings for the spacious wrap-around balconies on the upper floors.
    • Roof & Access: The design maximizes vertical space with a functional rooftop terrace featuring a spiral staircase leading to the top water tank deck and overhead utility space.
    Area Metrics & Site Layout
    • Land Area: 1,405.58 square feet (equivalent to exactly 0-4-0-1.78 in the local Ropani-Aana-Paisa-Daam system).
    • Plinth Area: 831 square feet, allowing for a comfortable compound perimeter wall, a secure entryway gate, a small landscaped green patch, and dedicated semi-covered ground-floor parking for a vehicle.
    • Total Built-Up Area: 3,220 square feet distributed efficiently across three primary floors and a rooftop stair cabin (barsati).
    Interior Layout
    • Ground Floor (Rental / Secondary Unit): Designed with a compact, independent footprint to allow for external vehicle parking and compound movement. It contains a self-contained unit featuring a living room, a kitchen-dining area, a private bedroom, and a common bathroom, serving as an excellent rental income generator.
    • First Floor (Main Living Area): The heart of the owner's residence, utilizing an open-plan concept. This level features an expansive layout seamlessly merging the main living room, dining zone, and kitchen, alongside two large bedrooms and a modern central bathroom. It features direct access to the lower balcony deck.
    • Second Floor (Flexible Multi-Purpose Space): Contains two highly versatile rooms that can be tailored to your lifestyle. They can serve as master bedrooms, a private home office, a gym, or an entertainment lounge, opening directly onto the wide front terrace.
    Design Philosophy

This residence beautifully adapts contemporary international aesthetics to the local urban context of Nepal. By utilizing a compact 831 sq. ft. plinth on a 4 Aana plot, the design preserves valuable ground space for parking and landscaping while maximizing vertical luxury to deliver 3,220 sq. ft. of highly functional space. The structural split accommodates independent rental living below while preserving multi-generational flexibility and privacy for the family above.
